Coach Halfpenny has gained valuable coaching experience throughout his career. He served as the Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA from August 2009 to August 2011. Prior to that, he worked as an Assistant Men's Tennis Coach at NC State University in Raleigh, NC from July 2002 to July 2006. During his time at NC State, the team achieved notable success, including participation in the NCAA tournament in 2006 and achieving an impressive ITA National ranking of #42. Additionally, they set a school record with 20 wins. Before joining NC State, Coach Halfpenny served as an Assistant Men's Tennis Coach at Brown University in Providence, RI from January 1999 to June 2002. His contributions at Brown University included guiding the team to the NCAA tournament in 2002, securing the Ivy League Team Champions title, and achieving an ITA National ranking of #48. For his outstanding coaching performance, he was honored as the 2002 Region One Assistant Men's Coach of the Year.
As a collegiate player, Coach Halfpenny was a member of the Division I Charleston Southern Men's Tennis Program from 1994 to 1998. He contributed to the team's success, helping them become Big South Conference Team Champions in 1996 and 1998. The team also achieved runner-up positions in the conference in 1995 and 1997. Furthermore, Coach Halfpenny received recognition as a First Team All-Big South Selection and served as a team captain for two seasons.
